Walking into Sal’s Caffe Italia, the first thing to catch the eye is the black and white family photographs. Some photos show owner, Joe as a young boy in Carini, Sicily. Others show Nina as a young lady in Brooklyn New York.
In 1972 these two set out to join the world of restaurant ownership. They started in what is now Shoppers World shopping center in Charlottesville with Sal’s Pizza. One of the first pizza places in Charlottesville grew in popularity and transformed to what it is today, Sal’s Caffe Italia.
Since 1985 the Charlottesville Downtown Mall has been the new home of Sal’s Caffe Italia. Joe and Nina built one of the first full service restaurants on the Mall and are proud to still be going strong. They will celebrate their 31st year as one of Charlottesville’s first Downtown Italian Restaurants in 2016.
Sal’s Caffe Italia is still family owned and operated today. The family and staff work hard daily to serve the finest pasta, pizza and Italian specialties. Joe and Nina would like to thank their amazing staff over the years as well as the loyal locals and tourists who continue to visit their establishment.
Sal’s Caffe Italia is proud to support local charities and organizations. In 2012 alone, $1200 was raised to support local organizations such as the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and The Virginia Institute of Autism. We strive to give back to our community in every way we can. If you are interested in partnering with Sal’s Caffe Italia for a charitable event please don’t hesitate to give us a call! Stop in and say hello, we also may be able to help you with a gift certificate for a family in need or for a local charitable organization.
Thank you for your continued support of Sal’s Caffe Italia.
